What is Merchant Discount Rate (MDR)?

Merchant Discount Rate, or MDR, is a fee deducted by and payable to TNG Digital Sdn Bhd as part of its digital payment processing service. It is automatically charged when accepting Touch 'n Go eWallet payment from their customers.

Are all SME merchants subjected to MDR?

It is only applicable to merchants who use static QR and meet these criteria:

•          SME merchants with five (5) outlets and above as per SSM certificate

•          Merchants with cashless payment terminals

When will Touch 'n Go eWallet begin charging MDR to merchants?

1. New merchants onboarded from 1st October 2020 and matched with the MDR charge criteria: Effective 1st October 2020

2. Existing merchants boarded between 2018 and 30 September 2020: Effective 1st January 2021

How much is the MDR?

SME merchants accepting payment via Touch 'n Go eWallet static QR code will be charged 0.5%.

When will I receive my payment?

TNG Digital Sdn Bhd will make the payment to you on the next working day. However, it is still subjected to respective bank’s processing time.

If the settlement date is on weekend/public holiday, then the settlement will be made on the next business day.

What is the difference between DuitNow QR and Touch 'n Go eWallet QR codes?

DuitNow QR code allows your customers to make payment using other banks and e-wallets whereas Touch 'n Go eWallet QR code is for customers who want to make payment with the Touch 'n Go eWallet app. You will receive payment regardless of which QR code is used.

How can a merchant be assured if the payment made by user is successful?

After the user has made the payment, merchant should receive an app notification stating that the payment has been made successfully or merchant can check all sales transactions in their Merchant Dashboard. Alternatively, merchant may also ask the user to show the proof of payment from his or her Touch ‘n Go eWallet.
