TNG eWallet approved by JTK Sabah as a recognised digital salary payment method in Sabah

Dec 17, 2025

TNG Digital Sdn. Bhd. (“TNG Digital”), the operator of Malaysia’s leading digital financial services and lifestyle app, TNG eWallet, today announced that Jabatan Tenaga Kerja Sabah (“JTK Sabah”) has officially endorsed TNG eWallet as a recognised digital salary payment method for migrant workers in the state.

The endorsement enables employers in Sabah, including those operating in remote plantations and worksites, to disburse wages digitally through TNG eWallet, providing a practical alternative to cash-based salaries. It builds on the earlier approval by Jabatan Tenaga Kerja Semenanjung Malaysia (“JTKSM”) and supports wider adoption of digital wage payments in East Malaysia.

Sabah’s labour-intensive sectors, such as plantations, agriculture and construction, continue to rely heavily on cash salaries, particularly at remote areas with limited access to banking services. This exposes employers to higher operational burden, security risks and compliance challenges due to the manual handling and transportation of cash.

Alan Ni, Chief Executive Officer of TNG Digital, said, “For many employers in Sabah, especially those operating plantations and remote worksites, cash remains the default because digital salary options were difficult to activate on the ground. With JTK Sabah’s recognition, employers can now disburse salaries digitally through their existing banking setup, while migrant workers gain a secure and accessible salary account. Today, more than 100,000 migrant workers nationwide already receive their salaries via TNG eWallet, with over RM3.5 billion disbursed in 2025 alone, demonstrating that this is a safe, scalable and practical wage payment solution that also advances financial inclusion in Sabah.”

Each verified TNG eWallet user is assigned a DuitNow account number, allowing employers to disburse salaries via DuitNow bulk transfers through their existing bank cash management platforms, without system integration or retraining. Digital salary payments also improve payroll transparency, reconciliation and audit readiness, supporting stronger governance and regulatory compliance.

For HR and operations teams, TNG eWallet reduces administrative burden by enabling workers to manage account security directly within the app. Features such as PIN reset via face verification and instant card locking or replacement reduce the need for HR intervention and improving operational efficiency.

For migrant workers, TNG eWallet provides a secure way to store wages digitally, withdraw cash and make payments worldwide using the Touch ’n Go eWallet Visa Card. Workers can also enjoy free peer to peer transfers, DuitNow bank transfers and convenient in app remittance services to send money home.

The endorsement by JTK Sabah provides employers in Sabah with a timely opportunity to modernise payroll operations, reduce cash-handling risks and strengthen compliance, while supporting financial and digital inclusion for migrant workers and more resilient business operations across the state.
