Duties & Responsibilities

  • The Associate Manager, AML & Financial Crimes Compliance is responsible for supporting the design, implementation, and ongoing effectiveness of the Company’s Anti-Money Laundering, Counter-Financing of Terrorism, Counter-Proliferation Financing, and Targeted Financial Sanctions (AML/CFT/CPF and TFS) framework in line with Malaysian regulatory requirements. The role ensures that the digital remittance business operates in full compliance with the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing, and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLA), relevant BNM policy documents, and expectations applicable to licensed remittance service providers in Malaysia.
  • Key Responsibilities

  • 1. Regulatory Compliance & Governance
  • Support the AML/CFT/CPF and TFS compliance program, monitor regulatory developments issued by BNM and other relevant authorities and assess their applicability to digital remittance operations, and support regulatory examinations, supervisory engagements, and internal or external audits relating to AML.
  • 2. e-KYC, CDD, and Onboarding Controls
  • Oversee implementation of risk-based CDD for the remittance customers, review onboarding journeys for digital remittance customers (including the SBX channel) to ensure compliance with AMLA requirements e.g. e-KYC, sanctions/PEPs/adverse media screening, etc.
  • 3. Transaction Monitoring & Suspicious Transaction Reporting
  • Support the design and ongoing calibration of transaction monitoring rules and scenarios relevant to remittance activity. review alerts, unusual transaction patterns, and typologies, prepare and review Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) for onward submission to BNM-FINS within prescribed timelines, and maintain proper documentation and audit trails for STR decisions.
  • 4. Sanctions/PEPs/Adverse Media List and High-Risk Jurisdiction Monitoring and Maintenance
  • Assist in periodical monitoring and maintenance of the AML DB and high-risk jurisdiction to ensure they are updated and reflected on a near real time/real time basis where's practicable.
  • 5. Quality Assurance/Control
  • Perform a periodic monitoring and back testing of the remittance customer registration (regular, F2F, and SBX) including Beneficial Owner (BO) registration and assist on the periodical reporting to the management.
  • 6. RFI/RFD From the LEA and FIED BNM
  • Assist in attending request for information and document from the LEA and FIED BNM by performing the name screening and lodging the STR to BNM.
  • 7. Data, Reporting & Record-Keeping
  • Ensure AML/CFT records are maintained in accordance with statutory retention requirements, support preparation of management reports and accuracy and completeness of AML-related regulatory submissions.

Requirements

  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in law, Finance, Accounting, Banking, Risk Management, Compliance, or a related discipline.
  • Experience:
  • 4–7 years of relevant experience in AML/CFT, financial crime compliance, or regulatory compliance, preferably within remittance service providers, fintech or digital financial services, banks or licensed non-bank financial institutions
  • Demonstrated exposure to BNM regulatory requirements or AMLA-regulated entities is strongly preferred.
  • Technical & Regulatory Knowledge:
  • Strong working knowledge of AMLA and subsidiary legislation, BNM AML/CFT policy documents, STR reporting obligations and BNM-FINS processes, understanding of financial crime risks specific to cross-border remittances and digital channels., and familiarity with transaction monitoring systems, sanctions screening tools, and digital onboarding controls.

  • Reporting Line:
  • Reports to Manager, Compliance and works closely with Operations, Product, Technology, Risk, and Customer Support teams.
