FAQ

1. What is SmartTAG?

It is the acronym for “Sistem Membayar Automatik Rangkaian Tol”.  It is a  vehicle on-board unit that works in combination with the Touch ‘n Go card and enables user to pay toll with drive-through convenience.

It is a battery-operated electronic device that receives and transmits the information between the Touch ‘n Go card and the tolling system at toll plaza using infrared as its communication medium.

2. Why does the new SmartTAG model has no LCD display like the previous model?

The sale of the new SmartTAG model is to meet our customers’ demand for a cheaper SmartTAG unit. Our survey showed that customers prefer a cheaper SmartTAG unit compared to having additional features in the SmartAG unit.

Therefore, our SmartTAG manufacturer is able to produce and supply the new SmartTAG model much cheaper without the LCD display.

3. Why does the price of the new SmartTAG model remain at RM100 although it has less features compared to the previous SmartTAG model?

The actual price of the previous SmartTAG model is RM180. Due to customers’ request, TNGSB subsidized the unit by selling at RM100 since April 2005 until March 2007 through ‘100 For 100’ campaign.

However, TNGSB has discontinued the ‘100 for 100’ campaign and set the price of the new SmartTAG model at RM100 only.

4. How can I check my Touch ‘n Go card balance if the new SmartTAG model has got no LCD display?
You can check your last Touch ‘n Go card balance by observing the amount at Toll Fare Indicator (TFI) which is placed at all toll lanes, upon each transaction.

You can also check your Touch ‘n Go card balance by calling Touch ‘n Go Careline Centre at 603-7628 5115 OR by viewing your card transaction (usage and reload) via e-Statement facility at Touch ‘n Go website, www.touchngo.com.my. Please take note that this method will provide transaction details as per 48 hours earlier.

5. How can I determine the battery level if the new SmartTAG model has got no LCD display?
If your SmartTAG unit produces a ‘beep’ sound twice during the transaction, the battery level is high or satisfactory. However, if the unit produces a ‘beep’ sound more than twice continuously during the transaction, your battery level is low. Hence, a change of battery is required.

6. What are the benefits of using Smart TAG?

Eco friendly - The use of infrared is safer to our health as compared to microwave technology.  It also does not cause interference to the communication frequency.
Fast Transaction Time – vehicles using SmartTAG lanes doubles the speed of normal Touch ‘n Go lanes.
Value for money – time is money. Customers can breeze through the toll plaza without having to wait in queue. There is also less wear and tear on your vehicle’s tyres, brakes and power window.
Flexibility – Customers can enter using SmartTAG lane and later exits using Touch ‘n Go lane and vice versa.

7. Where can I buy Smart TAG?
